Audemars Piguet Extra Plat 4682/002
The 1980s and 1990s were perhaps some of the most trying times in traditional watchmaking where brands were battling against the new wave of quartz powered watches. The emphasis on craftsmanship became increasingly important as a way to differentiate from the time accuracy of quartz watches. Intricately decorated pieces like this special limited edition Audemars Piguet in 33mm were created. Combining the use of platinum, rose gold and yellow gold, the skeletonised movement was some of the best produced at the time.

Our Thoughts:
Audemars Piguet produced some of the most decorated and fascinating pieces in the 1980s and 1990s with skeletonised design and hand engraved dials dominating the collections. This particular piece here is rarely seen on the market with a relatively minimalistic sector dial in monotone. The piece is part of a limited collection that was produced for the Japanese market with a simple and toned down dial and case aesthetics.
Flipped over, you will see a beautiful two-toned fully engraved and openworked movement through the sapphire caseback. The contrasting aesthetics is rarely seen with the combination of three different precious metals (platinum case, rose gold and yellow gold movement). A true sleeper, we rarely see brushed platinum case finishing, combined with the stunning movement, this piece is one that will catch the attention of real collectors looking for fine vintage and neo-vintage pieces.
