Condition:
Watch is in fantastic condition 8.8/10 with normal signs of wear. The watch appears to be close to unpolished with some regular swirl marks but all original bevels and engravings remains. The lugs and edges remain super full and the original caseback sticker is still intact and in good condition.
The original dial is in immaculate dial with no damage to all lumes and surfaces and hands original to the watch. The day and date discs are factory original and are mentioned in the service in 2011. Box and tags is in excellent condition with warranty booklet.
Our Thoughts:
As we have mentioned several times before, Day-Dates are probably one of our favourite models in Rolex’s spectrum. Back in the 1970s to 1980s, customers had the option to purchase the Dat-Date watch with or without the bracelet, therefore there are more watch head only pieces on the market than ones with the full bracelet. This particular piece is believed to have this bracelet from new and the dial on this is no ordinary dial either.
The dial is a rather rare cream “Buckley” dial with the black roman numerals and to match the dial, the hands are specially made in black as well. Then upon closer inspection, you will see that the “day” and “date” windows are both fitted with Traditional Chinese font discs which have become extremely collectible in recent times completing the full package for this piece.
The watch speaks for itself and it is sometimes hard to describe the way a vintage 1803 Day-Date feels on wrist but it is somewhat a must-have for any collectors who looks into Rolexes.
